The World of The Mannamong

The mannamong are mythical spirits created by Mother Nature to guide and protect humanity. They were known as a legend throughout the world, something passed down through generations as a folklore tale. But they become real to one little girl in an unexpected way. Believing in the bedtime stories about the mannamong from her mother, Kali’s world is turned upside down when she learns one has been possessing her after running away from his prison. Kali struggles to convince her mother they are real.

Most mannamong beings reside in the spiritual realm, hiding themselves from the mortal realm. From a distance in a separate dimension, they observe humanity. Humans can only interact with the spiritual realm through their dreams, where they exist momentarily in an astral form until they awake. Only those with heightened spiritual awareness, like Kali, will remember the events they witness with clarity and have control of their movements within that realm. The mannamong can travel between the two realms using gateways that only they can open.

In a world similar to ours, there are legends about spirits called mannamong. According to the stories, Mother Nature created them to guide and protect humanity. However, these stories have faded into myths over time.

Despite this, the mannamong still exists and roam unseen by all except one girl named Kali Teal. Cursed with a rogue mannamong hibernating inside her, Kali grows deathly ill and is left confused by the contradictory nature of the mannamong.

It is an old town that boasts a rich artistic heritage. It was once a popular settlement for colonials who wanted to mine rare and exquisite crystals to make a handsome profit. It is now a tourist hotspot, famous for its pristine display of these crystals throughout the mountains. Every year, festivals are organized to celebrate artistic creativity. Kali and her mother live outside the town but are familiar with most of its residents.

Separating themselves from the mortal realm where humanity resides, mannamong takes refuge in the spiritual realm. Only projections of one’s spirit drifting partially within their sleep, can mortals gain access to this dimension momentarily. But everyone will pass it off like a dream with their memories of the experience barely intact. The mannamong can travel between the two realms with ease and make the spiritual realm their home away from humanity’s touch in their sacred lands. Where they carefully lay out their plans for advancing human development.

Xemn is the ability to use one’s soul to interact with the supernatural. For humans, it’s to witness and touch spirits. For Mannamong, they use Xemn to touch surfaces without phasing through in the mortal realm. Xemn allows the user to bend the forces of nature into human and spiritual counterparts.. Many Xemn users can only handle so much. Still, talented users like Tontorus can master both sides, handling mortal and spiritual approaches to Xemn.
